This was once a ski tow setup on the UAF campus. Apparently it was closed
sometime in the '80s after a student died on a homemade ski jump.
The facility was closed, and trees were planted across much of the
ski hill. In addition, random fencing and large signs were placed across
much of the hill between upper and lower campus in an effort to deter sledding
and skiing.. The signs serve as large disclaimers warning people that the
fences can cause injury, which is actually their sole purpose. The ski
lift winch and the light tower are still standing, and only wandering stoners
and underage drinkers use them now.
The light / pulley tower. The middle photo shows the "lockpicking"
metod of choice for stoners.
For some reason there is half a 12 gauge shotgun shell stuck in the
wall above the list of operators.
