I'm not sure what these were originally, there are quite a few antennas
or remains of antennas in the area, and lots of buried coax and power lines.
The burned buildings are all within about a mile of eachother, but
far enough apart so that one fire shouldn't have gotten them all. One hint
as to the possible fate of these structures is the fact that the UAF fire
department condicts drills in this area (including practice on wrecked
cars) so they may have burned the buildings as practice. The area also
has an intact modular building and a rifle range which is still used occasiounally.
The single large building seems to be storage for antique physics equipment,
although there are a few newer items of equipment. It's unclear how often
these installations are used, some of the equipment looks like it is still
connected, but most looks like it's been stored there since the 60's. The
area is occasionally plowed of snow, and is part of the ski trail system
on campus.
The intact structure, locked up tight with steel runway plates (marsden
matting) over all windows and doors.
The only unbarred access involves some air vents, the interiors of
which are coated in frost and ice.
Hallways and storage rooms full of old electronic equipment.
The aircon room, and the bathroom (turned into a darkroom/office)
Some newer equipment and ice chest full of icepacks and other stuff
(biological samples?)
All kinds of odd machinery and testing equipment, and lots of boxes
of spare vaccume tubes.
An outhouse near the shooting range.
The road in, and a burned building
Anyone want a free Gamma Ray detector?
They apparently contain toxic chemicals and/or volitile crystals of
some kind. They're also too damn heavy to carry...
