The north end of the line for the Alaska Railroad, Fairbanks has a passenger station, yards, engine repair shops, a refinery (in North Pole), and connections to various businesses and industries around town. UAF has its own siding for coal delivery to the power plant.
Various pictures from the rail yards.
An old brick water tower (kind of blurry) an active level crossing,
and an abandoned crossing.
WWII-era troop transport cars parked in the yard. These have been on
the military base
for a while and are probably headed to scrap yards or to the AKRR headquarters
in Anchorage.
