An unplanned stop on the trip, Rotterdam had a bit more to offer than the locals seemed to think. I guess no matter where you live you can get tired of the local scenerey, even if it's fantastic to visitors.
Container stack the first day, urban canyoning and chimney action!
An active grain silo, and views from the rooftop.
A very nice rail tunnel 20m under the river. It was supposed to be
open in 2002, and it still uncompleted.
Fort museum and abandoned bunkers on the coastal dunes. Someone has
tried to seal a number of these up,
but locals have made entrances to most of the tunnels. Some of these
are WWI and earlier Dutch bunkers, some are
WWII German Atlantic Wall fortifications, and some are refit mistures
of both.
Some kind of cold war US outpost built on/in the bunkers.
An awesome bridge that's a great urban climb and a wonderful view.
There's also a giant harbor control radar on one end, and a modern elevator.
This was formerly a major rail bridge into the city, but was replaced
by an underwater tunnel. The local residents petitioned for the bridge
structure
to be saved, so today it is an industrial monument to the city's heritage.
